Our Story

MetricAid was inspired by a problem that our founders had experienced firsthand: physician scheduling is complicated, time-consuming, and has a big impact on physician wellness.

In 2012, emergency physician Dr. Scott Daley and hospital administrator Les Blackwell came together to build a better approach. From the beginning, the goal was not simply to fill shifts. It was to make scheduling work better for physicians, the people managing it, and the departments relying on it every day.

Our initial focus was on using data to help emergency departments better align physician coverage with patient demand.

But scheduling is not only a data problem. It has to account for physician preferences, contracts, coverage requirements, fairness, changing needs, and the realities of the people working the schedule.

As MetricAid grew, so did our approach. In 2019, MetricAid merged with Medevision, bringing together scheduling expertise and physician scheduling technology. That combination helped shape the model we use today: flexible, purpose-built software supported by people who understand the complexity and human side of healthcare scheduling.

Today, our team brings together physicians, former hospital administrators, expert schedulers, and software specialists. We work with healthcare teams across Canada, the United States, Europe, Australia, and the Middle East, from individual departments to complex, multi-site systems.

A lot has changed since 2012, but the reason behind the work has stayed the same. We believe that better systems can make healthcare work better for the people within it. For us, that means reducing unnecessary administrative burden, giving physicians more fairness and predictability in their schedules, and helping healthcare leaders make more informed decisions about coverage.
